Div width not working

Div width not working
My page is here: http://helene.affordablehost.com/~freedom

I put the entire page in a div and set the width on the div but the thing refuses to stay at the width I put to it. I'm using Dreamweaver MX. I don't know if that makes a difference. At 800 x 600 resolution, the page looks normal but at 1078 x 800 it gets too wide.

If div widths don't work, what does? or maybe I'm doing something wrong. Will someone please take a look?

I would wrap the whole page in a table instead of a div.

i would dump all of the tables from the page.

mixing tables and divs is never a good idea..
