flash programs?

I'd like to begin using flash. I've searched tucows, fileplanet and sourceforge but I've found nothing. Here are the rules for the program.

The program must:
- be freeware
- be Win98 compatible
- have GUI
- create swf files

The program may:
- use php
- use xml

The program may not:
- be freemovie/php (I already tried it and it didn't work )
- be adware or spyware

RE: flash programs?

I'm looking for free software because shareware and commercial programs must be paid using credit cards and I don't have one. I can't even get one because I'm under 18

Not sure about kazaa... I usually don't trust in programs that show ads ;)

RE: flash programs?

I just checked how much Macromedia Flash MX would cost: FIVE HUNDRED DOLLARS

I understand that quality is expensive, but this is absolutely too much! So is there a free alternative :

RE: flash programs?

You can usually get a student discount on software like Flash, making it more like $100-$200 instead of $300. Check with your school's computer lab.

If you're serious about getting up your Flash chops, then unfortunately shelling out the necessary cash for the software is part of the process. Flash and SWF are properitary formats, created and owned by Macromedia. They're not global "freeware" like HTML. So, unfortunately, it means owning up to the beast who creates them.

HTH. =)

For me that's a big money too.

I'm not "serious" and that's the problem. I don't like spending big piles of money to programs I will barely need at all. Here's a quote from Jacek Artymiak's first article about freemovie:
Quote:
When Macromedia, Inc. released the specification of the Flash (SWF) file format to the public, it opened the way for independent developers to create tools that supplement the Macromedia Flash authoring application and the (now-discontinued) Macromedia Generator.

If I understood right, it IS possible to create a freeware flash program, because the file format specification is public. You can read the whole article at (long link)

I understand that macromedia wants profit from its products. But because the file format specification is now public, programmers should have no problems coding a flash program specified above. I would if I could.

RE: flash programs?

*agrees with the anonymous fellow*

there may or may not be freeware for that available--i don't know. but if you're going to get into it at all, you might as well get the full licensed version from macromedia. hey, you never know. you might really like it and want to pursue it seriously.

RE: flash programs?

I absolutely would like it. But I don't think it's possible to get a student discount, because we don't use Flash at all in my school.

But wait a second! Next autumn I will begin in a new school. And I think there IS Macromedia Flash there, so I WILL be able to do flash movies with it. For free!!!

RE: flash programs?

Hi, there are free programs like Swift, and Kool Moves, which cost 10-100 Dollars.
A discounter here in germany sells Kool Moves for 10 Eur/$, but I am sure it is not as good as Flash, and not MX cabable

Anyway, I got the studentlicense for 120 Eur, which was 100 Dollars a while ago.

You can try Flash 30 days.
Also, if you dont really want to ger serious with it, get Flash 4 or 5 on ebay, the basic stuff works since verison 4.

RE: flash programs?

Swish is beginning to sound interesting... Maybe I'll try it.

Btw, why wouldn't the next contest be: code a flash program using php!

Anime_Vengence: Thank you but I think I don't support software piracy of any kind. Hopefully some admin will soon come and edit your post by removing your CD-KEY.

RE: flash programs?

if found 3 very cool flash editors that are free:

http://powerbullet.com/ - makes "power-point slideshow" flash , timed push-ahead or click-4-next slide with mp3 and text effects. can make linear or branched navigation.

http://www.soundclick.com/software/ - this is a mp7 editor (yes - it's 'mp7' no typo - enhanced mp3's - japan loves these - but it is weird to think of it - we put mp3 inside flash- mp7 is flash inside an mp3 instead !! ) soundclicks comes with a flash editor to create an animation that can be sync'd to an mp3 file , just like a music video ..

http://www.capturepad.com/ - screen capture with webcam , input from your tv card , mp3 or voice . this is like authorware or robohelp - create how-tos for wares or websites ... welcome sitevisitors with your own video greeting, send video messages in small flash format by email .....

all the best
