HTML forms & validation

Hi Guys

I have a form within an HTML document (code below)that works well giving a "thank you" results page and sends an email to the correct place giving the correct information via server side php code (also below). I now need to add some validation and also ensure that fields are filled in. I have seen a lot of scripts available, but as a novice, this is not easy for me. Can I enhance the php code in any way, does there need to be something else in the form code or what? Also, it is not always clear where different types of code should go e.g. in the doucment, linked as an external file etc. Also, how easy to include check boxes? I understand the HTML side, but how do I include this in the php file?
PS Sorry, this is a lot to ask but this site is for a kids charity so any help would be really appreciated by more than just me.

Code:
<FORM name="signup" id="signup" method="POST" action="http://www.********.be/bedrijf_mail.php">

RE: HTML forms & validation

For the client side validation you can use javascript.

<script language="JavaScript">
<!--
function Onlychars(key) {
c = false;
if (key>=97 && key<=122) c = true;
if (key>=65 && key<=90) c = true;
return c;
}

// -->
</script>

then for text and textarea fields in your form you can define onKeyPress event, which will prevent a user from typing characters, you don't want to permit.

<input type="text" onKeyPress = "return OnlyChars(event.keyCode);">

For PHP see PHP section.
