contest idea
Hi to all of you! ;)
This is my idea for a 'maybe-next-contest': ( If it's hard to understand what I mean, please forgive me, I'm no native! ;) ) The main idea is a pencil and paper game I used to play at school some years ago. First you draw some kind of racing track onto a checkered (?) piece of paper. Then each player picks a starting position behind the starting line. The movement acts as follows: - You have to move the previous moved vector and are allowed to modifie the end position by chosing one of the adjacent points from the end of the vector. ( To make this clear I have attached two pics ) Of course it was not allowed to stop where an ohter player is 'standing' though it was allowed to pass (drive) over that point. In fact that was the whole game, first one to pass the starting line won! ;) Sometimes we modified the track to include walls ( where you would crash to zero speed ) or we put oil on the track where you weren't allowed to 'break' or sand at some curves to allow cutting of these. For this contest we could draw the track in some kind of image program. So maybe black would be outside of the track and white the track it self. ( And other colors for some specials, see above ). And each contestant would have to provide a car class which would be given the map (as filename) the coordinates where it is standing/driving and the previous coordinate (to calculate the driven vector). Judging would be some kind of grand prix! ;) Where you get points for each race, and the one with the most points after all tracks would be the winner. Some nice addition would be to have the car classes drawing their way onto the track to see how the race went! Many greetings to all of you! ;) --------------------- ![]() here you see a 'could-be' track with one car driving from the starting line. ![]() here you see the behaviour of a driving car. Update: The red lines show the repeated motion vector, and the green ones the actually chosen vectors. |

RE: contest idea
Hi again! ;)
![]() Figure 1: - The car ( big green dot ) is standing still ( velocity 0 ). Possible movements are a to i. Figure 2: - h was chosen to drive to. Figure 3: - The repeated motion - vector ( red arrow ) from figure 2 marks the new end location from where to chose the next position. i is chosen. Figure 4: - Again the last vector is repeated ( red ) and the new ( blue ) is chosen Figure 5: - Same as 4 Figure 6: - Same as 5 |

RE: contest idea
This is a cool idea, but corridors was just done which is sort of similar in that you have to deal with a cordinate system. I think contests should vary in style, this is too similar to the last one.

RE: contest idea
this sounds really interesting......I just don't know how much strategy is involved
