On the contest page, it says "a new contest every month or so."

RE: Next Contest

Here's a thought, why don't we just run our own (no prize) contest while we wait for them to get a real contest?

Feel free to do so. If you need any resources from me, let me know. Posting of rules, doing a mailing to the contest announcement list, etc.

RE: Next Contest

Well, actually I didn't ask you.

If you did look on the Contest page it says "currently on hiatus".

What does that mean? Well it means that I'm taking a break. I've got a lot going on in my life right now and my primary focus is making a living and supporting my family. The PHP Coding Contest doesn't help me achieve those goals. If you haven't noticed, I make no money off the contest. I've never taken a prize for myself when I run the contests. I don't get jack crap from the contests except to hear you moan when there isn't one. Frankly, it is the moaning that makes me stay away from this forum most of the time as it is.

Anyway, the contest needs a major revamping. It needs automated submission scripts written where someone can resubmit entries up until the deadline. The script should be able to produce stats such as average lines of code per a script, min lines, max lines, etc. Fun stuff people are interested in. The script should also do basic syntax checking.

There needs to be a better judging method in place. The current method relies on a single point of failure (me or someone else) and always fails.

There needs to be a committee of people making these contests. Again, it is the single point of failure thing.

I am more than willing to set up all the items needed for collaboration on my server and do all the leg work of obtaining and retaining sponsors. I just need help on the other things.

What I would really like to see if a Project Team of sorts. I.e., one person resonsible for prizes, one person responsible for this, other for that, a team for judging, a team for contest creation.

So, as you can see a lot of stuff needs to be done. Next time before you come here moaning and complaining, think about that. Then, maybe you might get off your anonymous butt and offer some support in some way.

RE: Next Contest

Hi there, if it's still in the discussion I would love to help out with some sort of the submission scripts. (With some help of course).

So just leave me a message if there is something going on. ;)

Best regards! And don't listen to those moaners! I have allways loved your contests, but your reasons are by far some of the best!

Many greetings again! And best of luck to you and your family!

RE: Next Contest

I would really like to help make some automation scripts. I was thinking a while ago about making something that would automate contests, but it never materialised into anything, but i still think it is a good idea. If a group of people want to talk about making a script, im always on the site and so just send me a message and I'll be more than happy to help.

RE: Next Contest

Thanks matt, I signed up. Now its just matter of getting other people. Im gonna start making a few things and seeing what I can come up with. If possible, can you maybe detail what you would want the script to do? I know you said a few things above, but is there anything else? Im taking notes at work here so I can detail what I need to do. Thanks.
