Does anyone use NDBM?

Does anyone use NDBM w/ PHP? I've been trying to get it to work without much luck. I've verified that PHP is compiled with DBM and NDBM support.

When trying to open my database, however, I get a bad magic error and a permission denied (the file is world readable and I'm using dbmopen w/ option "r").

Thanks in advance for any ideas.
