large vs. small tables
Hi, I am fairly new to mysql and was just curious about one thing. I am writing a program that allows users to register and it contains a lot of fields for personal info/address/phone number etc etc(about 14).
I wanted to know if it matter whether or not I create one large table or split it up into two tables. Any suggestions on how I should approach it? Thanx |

RE: large vs. small tables
Well, it does somewhat matter - if you have large rows, it takes MySQL longer to read each of them, even if you only select some of the fields.
Depending on what exactly you want to do with the data, I'd put the often queried fields in one table (like login and password and user id), while storing the other information in a second table... But, it all depends... |
