No !@#$ing idea

Hi,
I have just spent an inordinate amount of time getting a linux box that was once a web server and is now a development workstation up and running with a new verison of RH (7.3) and re-installing mysql, samba, etc.

I have finally managed to get mysql to see the aviable datbases but I cannot connect to them as yet because we seem to have a user/permissions issue. Is it possible to identify the roles, permissions, etc that the existing (ie old, from original datbase) tables/datbases have sop that I can configure the new systems user database to match? Or, failing that, can I create some new almighty user and get access to everything that way?

Or, do I simply get a brand new dump and start from there?

(P.S. After 10+ years of playing management material, this is hurting my brain, but I think its doing me good.)

RE: No !@#$ing idea

The root user should have access to any and all databases. Once you sign in as root, you can add any user you like with permissions to any databases you like...
