RE: Fun.....
OK...well the short of it is that I don't know exactly what happened.
The long is that on Monday night I decided to upgrade mysql server from 3.23 to 4.1. Subselects and all that. Anyway, I run FreeBSD and normally do everything through ports since it keeps things nice and organized for me. So, I pkg_deleted version 3.23 (obviously being sure to backup the mysql data files first) and then I went to install version 4.1 from ports. Well, it wouldn't install. Complained about a missing header file. Sure enough, that header file wasn't in /usr/include. Found that header in /usr/src and copied it over and then it complained about another header, and another, and another. So, I decided it was time to cvsup /usr/src and do a make world. So, I did. Only make world wouldn't run. So, when make world doesn't run I tried to make make cleandir. Well, make cleandir failed. Doh! So, at this point I am unable to install ANY version of mysql (yes previous versions are also complaining about header files). This was a FreeBSD 4.6 RC2 box with multiple patches. Anyone that follows FreeBSD knows that a ton of stuff was broken a while back if you were running and older version like 4.6. So, I decided it would just be best if I started fresh with a new server instance on FreeBSD 4.8. That's what I did for the better part of yesterday - reinstall everything on the new server. I pretty much got it all going. I think the only thing left for me to do is get my cvs up and running. I need to hunt down what ruby scripts I modified to make the cvs mailer notifications work the way I like them to. But, other than that the cvs should be simple enough. You never realize just how long it takes to rebuild a server until something like this happens. Especially when you don't use all the standard items. For instance, I don't use sendmail, so I have to install qmail and vpopmail instead. There are some quirky things there that I had forgotten about (haven't installed them in a long time) and had to work through... Anyway, sorry for the downtime folks! |

Ahh....cvs up and running again...I think that takes care of everything...
Just need to do a final look through and make sure I didn't miss anything.. |
