RE: New Site Design

I really liked the site when you used arial - times new roman is not attractive. Perhaps there is a way you could make it customizable? Also, the ad banner at the top takes up a lot of space. I hope you don't mind the constructive criticism... Aside from this the site looks a lot better, good work,

Peter

RE: New Site Design

I'll see what I can't do about the font situation...

About the banner...I figured it was better to take it out of the design alltogether. That way, it is up on top, and all you have to do is scroll past it. The way it used to be was that it was in the middle of everything....

RE: New Site Design

Hi Matt,

Site looks great, I agree with Mugane on the font, but that is just a personal preference. Anyway, the main reason I am posting is that I noticed that the forum is not searchable anymore and was wondering why? It is a useful feature when trying to find old threads on a specific subject instead of scanning every post.

Thanks,

Ed Warren

RE: New Site Design

still, you only use about 38% of the area for the banner, and less of that for the banner content - resulting in mainly blank space. perhaps a better way would be to reduce the size of the banner and move it above the search form (in the maroon bar at the top). Otherwise you will be solely responsible for more scrolling than any man should be (I wonder if you could calculate the amount of scrolling in a typical day?)

You can actually still search it via the 'Search' link on the forum header itself. I have just taken away the option from the main search form temporarily. I am going to revamp the forum search and use MySQL's full text searching. The way it is done right now is with a bunch of LIKE statements and it really takes a toll on the MySQL server.

Anyway, I will have the new search in place in a day or two...

So, you are saying you want me to make the banner take up ALL the space up there? ;)

I can't make the banner smaller. You've got to stick the the standards in that department. What I am considering doing is not showing the top banner if you are logged in. Would that be useful?

RE: New Site Design

In the previous design topics that had replies from after my last visit where in bold; now I can't distinguish them from the ones I have read before.
Also the bright white strips left and right of a long post are very distracting.
And like already mentioned by others I too prefer a sans-serif family font over a serif-family; it's more readable on screen.
As for the rest: keep up the good work!

edit: strike my first remark, I see huge red letters now for new topics

It should now be obvious what posts are new. I am working on the others....

OK...fonts have been updated. The banner at the top now goes away when you are logged in....

I don't know what to do about the white strips...any suggestions?

RE: New Site Design

Fonts: Quoted text is significantly bigger than the rest of the post.

Banner: I forgot this site had banners; my Norton firewall does a really good job of removing most ads.

White Strips: How about making the background (of the table) the same cream color as the page (or just transparent).
