RE: No Comments on zombie's joke?

So it was Zombie who played the trick.. Though I knew this was an April Fools joke, I was very much concerned about the matter as well

RE: No Comments on zombie's joke?

thanks! i am glad you liked it..

the hardest thing for me was to make myself "sound" as matt (or even as an american). my english is not that perfect, so it took me over half an hour to write that message.. ;)

(you know, like when someone speaks with an accent. he can say it all corectly, but you still know english is not his native language. same thing with writing, i could say it perfect grammatically, but there are those "little things")

here is the rest of the story (a bit longer)..

-----------------------------------

so, it was april 1st, already past 2pm here in serbia, when i got an april fools "offer" mail from thinkgeek.com, with a title "today only", featuring products like pet viruses collection (check out the picture) and a free t-shirt (decode it yourself).

than, 15 minutes later, i saw a lame april fools joke attempt by an owner of the local serbian technical forum (where i am also a moderator), about how he will port the forum from PHP and mysql to MS technologies (funny, because most of the members are linux and OSS oriented).

i knew i have to do something, and do it fast. the only thing going for me at that moment was the time-zone difference, because it was only around 9am in the USA.

i used the MS idea, but a bit more radical. since most of us here "love" Microsoft, i knew it would be fun.. ;)

i needed a reason to justify the commercialization of codewalkers. takeover come to my mind immediately when i remembered PHPBuilder.com (probably the best php resource before it was sold to Internet.com).

i did a bit background work, found out who is behind Internet.com, and the rest wrote itself. i used the fact that matt wasn't around much lately, added a story about "professional moderators" to make it more believable, and used Internet.com advertisers as an excuse to slowly sneak in the story about commercialization.

since administrators can't post instead of other users, i edited matt's recent post, and altered the title and text. but unfortunately, the title of the thread can't be changed like that, so i had to find some other thread with a more appropriate title, like "something new".

(that is why matt's post was dated in the year 2002, as some of you have noticed.)

after editing that, i posted "a reply" to get the thread at the top, and posted an announcement at the home page, to draw attention to it.

and the rest is history.. ;)

RE: No Comments on zombie's joke?

What makes it even funnier is that someone actually made a post to one of the MS Technologies Forums!!!

RE: No Comments on zombie's joke?

I knew it was a joke, but what threw me was the IP address. I was wondering how you spoofed the IP. Now I know, I give you a 10!
