Anyone use gisol.com

I'm looking for a new host and have been trying to contact gisol.com for 3 days - no return email - I've sent them 3 questions - and nothing. Just silence. What is their after sales service like if this is their before sales service?
They seem to have a good cheap service but I want customer service as well. Anyone recommend a good host - lots of space and bandwidth - and cheap (yes I really do want everything). Linux of course.

Thanks

RE: Anyone use gisol.com

shared or dedicated?

and what exactly is "lots of space" for you?

a year or so ago, 100MB was "lots of space" for me. now, 1Gb isn't :-P

RE: Anyone use gisol.com

I'd prefer 2Gb of space / traffic I'd love anything over 12 Gb - gisol have 100Gb - that would be sweet.

Shared - unfortunately

RE: Anyone use gisol.com

I don't have any good recommendations, but I do know that I wouldn't deal with anyone that doesn't answer pre-sales questions..

One suggestion I do have is to search the forums at http://webhostingtalk.com/ for any hosts you are considering. If there is something bad to say about them, it will be there....

I use esphinx.net. They are quite good. Nice customer server/tech support. I recommend.

RE: Anyone use gisol.com

me and a friend currently have a site hosted there. Its great for smaller sites, but as they get bigger, the shared plans are very slow, and you get alot of refused connections. I really don't recommend them at all. We have been pretty unsatisfied with their service, but the previous owner has us locked into like a 2 year contract... But ya, I'm not a fan of them. Their support is terrible, and they do offer laot of bandwidth, but if you ever plan on using that much die to site visits, you won't last long before you start pulling your hair out in frustration

RE: Anyone use gisol.com

I'm using gisol - I think it's the middle plan. I signed up there because I could host three domains at the same spot and have sub-domains as well.

The offerings are great, the only problem I've had is with my personal site (the largest one) and I've had really slow (and timing out) ftp problems.

Their customer service is great - you always get an autoresponder saying that someone will respond and they do, usually same day, but you don't necessarily get any help on your "service tickets", they say the problem is on "my end".

I've contacted my provider about any problems and I get no problems anywhere except at 'my' site. I know they're located in California and I'm in Canada, but I have had many hosts before and never had a problem like I've had here - also my pages seem to take forever to load - even the pages that are only 4k. So I'm not sure what I'm going to do about this. If the service worked well then I'd say it was a fantastic offering. But I haven't really been satisfied by them.

RE: Anyone use gisol.com

The slowness is the biggest problem. They do not do a good job balancing server load at all. Their support is alright sometimes, its obviously a computer response the first time, but after about 4 repleies to the ticket you can get a human answer. Its quite annoying. They aren't lenient about server overusage at all as their FAQ says( We will warn you before suspending) Thats crao, they never warned us, just suspended, then made us upgrade(even though we were on the same server, therefore giving their server no less load....)We finally had to resignup, which was a painful process (Though they would cancel our account for us and sign us up for a nerw one, not transfer data, for a nominal processing fee of 45 dollars, how generous). They offered helop, after 2 weeks of support tuickets importing our sql dump(no you can't import an 87 meg dump into phpmyadmin). I havenb't experienced anything as drastic as anyone else has(the "stealing money" or whatnot), I think alot of problems were just caused by lack of intellegence on the users part, you don't sign up for a year with the thought of terminating in 30 days, had they have gone for a month, then they would have lost 20 bucks at most.... anyway, ya. They offer alot of stuff, but very slow, and I don't li9ke their tech support, they were very rude with me a few times, which irritated me

RE: Anyone use gisol.com

Me and a friend of mine went dedicated and leased a cobalt raq from datapipe.com. Good results, but we found that there were some quirks as to how it was configured. We were allowed 100gb transfer a month, and the server housed a 20 gig drive, I think. Like I said, we shared it, and payed a combined total of 100 bucks a month. Not bad, considering the level of control we had over everything. If you can spare that much a month, I would definitely look into it.

RE: Anyone use gisol.com

I have 4 sites on gisol... it's awful! 2-3 hours non-working DAILY! Now I want move all my projects to another host - they don't return money for 6 month that I've not used... but more interesting - they request to pay for domain releasing if I want to leave them. I must pay!

I think to bring an action against them - they crushed my buisness at all - during 6 months there were approx 20 whole days of non-working time, my clients are very angry. Do something have an idea?
My mail is info@all-that-gifts.com (this mail I've moved).

RE: Anyone use gisol.com

Although I paid for a year with gisol, I moved my site from gisol to netfirms.com. I had netfirms before and they were great for customer service and not bad pricing, but the gisol one seemed too good a deal to pass up. Since the service was such crap there I couldn't take it anymore and I left without even asking for my half-a-year's payment.
