RE: Beginner's book

I would recommend SAMS teach yourself php in 24 hours. It doesnt cover all of php (i doubt any book does) but it gives you a good understanding of php.

PHP and MySQL Web Development is by far the best.

RE: Beginner's book

Well PHP and MySQL is a good "Cookbook", but if you want something solid as a reference for anything, go with the OReilly Programming PHP book.

RE: Beginner's book

The two books I own and use the most are "PHP and MySQL Web Development", and "Build your own Database Driven Website using PHP and MySQL". By far the two best books I have read on PHP and MySQL. But there are many out there and the review section here talks about a few.
