Decision former governor Illinois
I recently heard about the decision of the former governor of Illinois. In Illinois there were 171 people sentenced to death. He changed the convictions a few days before he resigned.
So my question is as follow: Is it better to abolishe the capital punishment? To my mind the capital punishment should be abolised. As long as there are people who are undeserved sentenced to death, one can not approve such a inhuman system. I'd like to hear your oppinion... |

RE: Decision former governor Illinois
Who has been sentenced to death that was not deserving? The people he changed the sentences of were certainly deserving of the death penalty. That ex-governor just happens to be a liberal** who doesn't believe in the death penalty.
On the otherhand, he finds it perfectly acceptable to kill your unborn child. Funny how he doesn't think convicted murderers should be put to death but he doesn't mind that innocent children are everyday. **Yes I know he is a Republican, but if you look at his stance on issues he is clearly a liberal and does not vote with the majority of Republicans... |

RE: Decision former governor Illinois
as the wizard says in lord of the rings (something like this) many creatures are deserving of death, but many creatures are deserving of life as well.. unless you have the power to grant both, who are you to carry out ones judgement?

Thanks for your reactions, but I'm interrested in your oppinion. So, do you believe in the death penalty or not?
The death penalty is irreversible, so if it appears that the executed man was not the offender, you've a serious problem. My suggestion is: put them into jail and fling away the key... |

That's not enough. I think the key whould be swallowed, because if you only "fling it away", it can be found. |

i don't believe in jail, nor the death penalty. dun wanna preach about why, but if anything we should just put them all on an island somewhere and let them work their problems amongst themselves.

The island sounds great. I think they should be supplied with all the guns and drugs they want.
Since we can't have the island I am a firm believer of "Eyes for an Eye" and Total castration for sex offenders. Well just my two cents |

RE: Decision former governor Illinois
In our current legal system, the death penalty cannot exist.
There are far too many loopholes and possibilities for information to be corrupted, left out, or otherwise detrimentally changed. Even with DNA testing and the advancements made in the forensic investigation, there is still that doubt (sometimes) when eyewitness testimony (always fallible) can bring in incorrect or false information leading to the death of an innocent person. Then again, is anyone actually innocent anymore? In the few cases where the person is convicted based solely upon irrefutable and unchangeable evidence (e.g. DNA samples and forensic evidence in the case of rape) then the offender should most certainly be put to death. Studies have shown 98% of these offenders will repeat their crimes when released. Life imprisonment I do not agree with. Why should we the taxpayers pay out $30,000/year for these convicts to live a life better than some families? They have workout facilities, cable TV, libraries, etc. to "pay for their crimes". Have you even investigated the amount of crap they submit into the legal system? Why do you think it takes 6-8 months to get a court date anymore? Because these convicts are submitting frivolous lawsuits and wasting time and more of the taxpayers money. The above is of course my humble opinion. In regards to Gov. Ryan he is a true Republican. He does not mind receiving money to give CDL’s to unlicensed and illegal immigrants. Do you have a problem with someone driving over 20,000 pounds of metal at 55 mph and not knowing how to read or speak English? I wish one of those guys would plow in the Gov.’s family SUV when they are going to the park. He probably would not change his greedy ways and he would most likely find a way to blame the border patrol or someone else (he is Republican after all ;) [for both counts] ). |
