Dell Laptop Question

Hey all,

I just ordered a Dell Inspiron laptop and it is due to arrive tomorrow...and I had a quick question:

I hate all the crap they pre-install on the machines and was wondering...if I reinstall windows xp upon receiving my laptop, would it purge the laptop of all the superfluous programs or would it reinstall it with windows?

Thanks in advance!
-influxer.

RE: Dell Laptop Question

nothing is usually pre-installed on new computers. you have to go through an installation process before you can use it. if you're worried about "dell extras" you could use your own installation disc rather than the one that comes with the computer.

Dell computers have software fully installed on arrival, including AOL, Norton, Dell utilities, trial paint programs, and other trial software.

If you reinstall the OS and software the extras will not be installed unless you physically install them yourself.

RE: Dell Laptop Question

The first thing I do when I get a new computer is to go through and uninstall the stuff I will never use (Like the free trial of norton, aol, the stupid pay to play games). Though its been my experience that the OS they include with the computer (at least on my HP and a few other machines I've bought), the install they include generally runs faster and better than the default windows install from a CD

RE: Dell Laptop Question

I have the same laptop you're getting and you're answer is yes. Basically it comes with all the crap preinstalled... It also comes with 2 seperate CD's, one with the OS, and another with the drivers and the crap. So install the OS, then pop in the CD, then you can choose what to install, and leave all the crap behind.
