FOSSSL 05

We had a stunning last week here in Sri Lanka where 5th-11th was the National Free and OpenSource Software Week. Michael Tiemann (President of OSI and Father of G++), David Axmark (Co Founder of MySQL), Martin Michlmayr (Former Debian Project Leader), Bruce Momjian (Lead contributer to PostgreSQL), Greg Stein (Chairman, Apache Software Foundation), Rasmus Lerdorf (Father of PHP), Sam Ruby (Member of Apache Board and Hacker Extraordinaire) and Sanjiva Weerawarana (Member of OSI Board and Apache Web Services Leader) were present in Sri Lanka.

It was a great opportunity to meet all of them specially Rasmus Lerdorf. He had a tutorial session on PHP 5 and a presentation at the Conference. I was so excited to meet the creator of PHP being a great fan of this elegant language. I met him and discussed few things. David Axmark did a tutorial session on all the new MySQL 5 features and Greg Stein did a cool tutorial session on all the Google APIs and feeds. It was a great week for me learning new things and wanted to share with all the Codewalkers.

I do beleive I am jealous.

It was really cool. The presentations he did was excellent. It helped me a lot to improve my PHP skills in most areas. Its nothing like when you hear these things from the creator of PHP himself
