How do I get people to visit my homepage?

I just put up a homepage but I can't find it on any of the major search engines even though I submitted them.

Anyone know a way how to get good publicity for free? ...linkportal you often visit etc.

Thanks for your time! Really appreciate this forum!

Find sites that are similar in nature to yours. Send emaiil to the webmasters of those sites asking to exchange links...

To get in the search engines can take at least a couple of months...you just have to be patient on that one...

RE: How do I get people to visit my homepage?

It can be tough when you're site is new, but hang in there, mention with wherever you get a chance (without spamming, of course), visit forums similar to the topic of your site and see if they allow sig tags, then post from time to time. And of course, there's the e-mail sig tag - never know who you might get a visit from that way. And if you haven't already, be sure to submit to http://www.dmoz.org. And any other SE that takes submissions - and there's quite a few. You could even try some top site lists in your sites topic. And yes, be patient! It's difficult, how well I know, but it will happen if you stick to it! Good luck!

RE: How do I get people to visit my homepage?

First of all: Thanks alot for your time answering my all my questions! I'm visiting a lot of forums at this time, but people are by far the nicest in this one (by the way, thanks to this forum for linking to my site!)

Well, I tried the CMOZ but that one didn't work, I just get an error message when I try to submit it (e-mailed them today... se if ther reply) but I've submitted it to plenty of others.

Yes, it can be pretty tough, since I put it up I've been spending at least 10 hours/day updating and trying to get people to link to my page, lots of work, but fun!!

Thought about starting to write some articles on different freeware programs, and submitting them to sites that want to post them (adding my link of course). I do realize that would take up a lot of time! Do you guys think it's worth it, or should I spend my time on better things? (if so, tell me what) ...have to spend my time well, if I sit too long at the computer my girlfriend goes mad

Thanks again for your time! ...and check out the first site I made at www.kehedmodel.fi (that's the place I do practical training for my school). Tell me something nice about it

I'd say it's definitely worth it. I know it's time consuming - and I can understand your girlfriend getting upset...no gal wants to feel second to anything!

Anyway, I do articles, too and it can take a lot of time. Try a couple at first and build on them slowly. No need to go round the clock on it, but they can really help get exposure on sites and in ezines. Speaking of ezines, do you have one of those? Swapping ads works well if you do. I got 39 new newsletter subscribers from one newsletter swap in just two hours one day! Stupid me didn't keep the name of that newsletter, either - DOH!! Live and learn...

Once you get your article written, go to google and look for sites that accept article submissions and again, submit away. Gets tedious, but can be worth it.

For dmoz.org , did you be sure you went to your sites category and then click on Add URL? I just tried it out that far and it seems to be working fine, but I can't go through the entire submission again...

Very nice site, by the way! Let us know how it's going!

Getting in to the DMOZ http://www.dmoz.org. Is not always easy some times it takes a number of month’s for the editor’s to get around to you, the most important search engine out there is Google they normally take 30-60 days to get in be patient and in the time you have spend that adding more content to your webpage content is king it took me month’s to get vonage listed.
