How much is it worth?

I have been asked to do a web page, but not sure what to charge.

The job includes:
The site is going to sell old trucks and stuff like that. The main php page will contain basic inforation about the trucks.

The user will then be able to click on one of the trucks and get up a new page where there's a picture and more info.

Since the page will be updated daily by them, it has to be very easy to update, so I will create a special page where they can easily type in info into the database.

How much is reasonable to charge for a site like this? It is a big company, but the owner seems quite "cheap" (if I may...)

RE: How much is it worth?

Figure out approximately how many hours it's going to take you and multiple by whatever hourly rate you feel comfortable charging. Then, add another 50% or so since you most likely under-estimated the amount of time it's going to take.

Another important factor is to be firm about changes in requirements and other scope creep. The client always wants to add more features. In my opinion, the best thing to do is be upfront with them about how much extra work/time/money those feature will cost. Some features will be easy/cheap to add, others will probably be extremely complex and costly to add.

RE: How much is it worth?

hmm that alone wouldnt be worth that much, but clients do always see something else and ask for that, so you do it. DOnt tell them an exact price, quote them ... Honcho has a point about working out how much time. Id say go for around 5/6$ an hour ... and say its gonna take you, 4/5 hours? so theres around 25 - 30$, so quote him around 35$ (not an exact price) and then when you hand it over, if he asks you to add anything, dont forget to add to the price (yes, ive done it before :S)

RE: How much is it worth?

Hatcher: To my mind that's a very, very small fee. The big companies charge about 80 euro/dollar. Charge somewhere between
the 20 and 30 euro. It's very hard to find a good and cheep programmer, so if you charge 25 euro, you'll be cheeper then all the other companies... :p

I think, that the programming job costs about 4 hours...

Though the owner seems cheep, you'll be the cheepest programmer in the area...

Don't hasitate, just charge 25 euro!
