I need professional reviews
Hello everyone, I'm a 14 year old 8th grade student from Utah, and I need some help. Normally, I wouldn't care, but the website I'm asking help for won first place in the state science fair. That's pretty cool, but, I also got nominated for an extra award (a scholarship opportunity). It's called "The Young Scientist Challenge 2004" by the Discovery Channel.
So anyway, I was wondering if you could review my website from a programmers perspective and from an Astonomers Perspective (if you have any experience). This would help me out more than you can imagine. I need to include some testimonials for this contest. Thanks in Advance. http://www.vandekids.com/astronomy/ My project is about organization, content management, and design through programming in PHP. Remember, I'm just an intermediate programmer, nothing GREAT like you guys. Thanks again. |

RE: I need professional reviews
contrats, first of all.
the first thing you'd want to do is run your site through some code validators. that will help make sure you're compliant with the latest web standards. as for personal critique, and the following is just by looking at it (i didn't do any in-depth research or anything).. pros: good color scheme, nothing clashes. minimal use of images, good optimization and loading time. easy to follow/navigate. the astronomical information appears to be accurate and informative, although i'm not an expert. you're missing the big/little dipper and the great bear, but that's about all i noticed cons: i'm viewing the site using IE with 1024x768 resolution, and the page is still scrolling off the screen (horizontally). everything seems to be centered, where i think it would look better if things were aligned. for example, the titles "constellations" and "stars" would look better if they aligned left, as well as the large list of links in both the left and right columns. lastly, every link has its own separate page, which could become a great pain to maintain after you've got 100's of different sections. it'd probably be better to pull your content dynamically from a database and directly into the template, rather than having a unique filename for each page. good luck! |

RE: I need professional reviews
Thanks You!
I actually have the database suggestion in my "If I were to continute my project I would..." section. And I am using a filebased template~ but the MySQL database would be the best addidtion. |
