Is your organisation outsourcing and/or offshoring programming?

I have seen a recent survey on this topic (http://www.methodsandtools.com/dynpoll/oldpoll.php?Outsource). Close to 50% are outsourcing programming. What is the situation for your organisation?

Well, on the optimist side at least 40% of participants are NOT outsourcing programming ;o)

RE: Is your organisation outsourcing and/or offshoring programming?

Our company had a nasty shock when they started to out source to a Indian firm and then later found that same firm was then re branding our software that we paid for and then on selling it to opposition companies, after a long legal battle which made lawyers richer and no real out come because of lax copyright lays in India they then decided to go back to in house, but they found they could not get the head developers back unless they paid more money and offered better incentives, me being one of them. I felt good to say I told you so... and doubled my salary at the same time because the new company I was working for wanted to keep me....

All and all a nasty shock to the tight fisted cheap skates..................

RE: Is your organisation outsourcing and/or offshoring programming?

Loosing control is a important concern for company doing outsourcing. I am convinced that many have underestimate the problems caused by using external providers and that we will see a trend for "in-sourcing" in the future.
