For me it just kinda happened also. I needed to create a web site for my church and didn't feel like updating the html source everytime to add new events and such...so, I looked around and PHP fit the bill.....

RE: Just wondering who you got started...

I was doing everything in C (must thank Thomas Boutell for cgic and of course gd), never cared for Perl. Then I stumpled across MySQL prior to any books being published about it and them changing their logo to a dolphin.

Finally the first published book about MySQL came out, "MySQL & mSQL" from O'Reilly. This was absolutely, positively the WORST book I have ever read! Anyways, in the book they had discussed PHP and ever since then I have been using PHP almost exclusively.

RE: Just wondering who you got started...

i surfed the web out of bordom till i stumbled on an html tutorial, which was easy enough. but then i was soon very upset cause i had all this useless knowledge unless i took it further (programming) and took me a long time before i decided which language to use.

started with c++, didn't get any further than learning the basic syntax of that until a net friend reccommended a book on PHP. even after i read it i still wasn't sure whether or not i could actually program, until i told him i read it all, and he says "well.. get coding!" and so i did
