Laptops

I'm thinking of getting a laptop. But due to money restrictions I'd need a used one. Any thoughts on this.

RE: Laptops

ebay can sometimes be a little competitive and you won't always get a bargain. Take a look in the local newspaper classifieds, I got my first laptop there for $250 and at the time it was about a generation old. I bet you can get a P3/500mghz for under $400 in the paper this week. If you are just using it for windows/office and coding this will work fine, if you want to run high end games it might not be the best plan. Even a P2 would work for coding and office apps I think.

RE: Laptops

Yeah I'm just looking for a simple laptop I can take places so I can code mostly anywhere.

RE: Laptops

Just watch out when you pick colors for your webpage on a laptop. Their color-scheme is different than from regular monitors.

Just a not-so-fun thing... I spent weeks finishing my webpage on my laptop... after putting it up I had a look at it on my other computer - it looked terrible!

It's not just my laptop (I have a Compaq AMD 2000), I have read about this in other forums too, where other people have noticed this.

...Just a fun thing to concider... Otherwise laptops are great! I don't use my other computer any more since I work on several different locations right now. Also a great thing for school!

RE: Laptops

After a few years I should begin studying in a university. What do you guys think, should I get a normal desktop computer or rent a laptop?

RE: Laptops

Depends on what you need it to. If you're thinking of maybe trying to work as a freelancer at the same time as you study, a laptop is great. It's just nice to bring your computer with you and show the potential customers your previous work.

At school you'll get your own catalogue on the schools server, which is also available on the internet (at least this is the case in most schools in finland), so you will be fine with just having a desktop.

I guess another question is... are you rich?
I'm not, but I got my laptop from my work... Otherwise I probably wouldn't have gotten it.

RE: Laptops

To your last question: Read the last sentence from my post: "or should i RENT a laptop?".

Did you forget that you can rent a laptop computer from Sonera for 54.99euros per month? See http://www3.soneraplaza.fi/internet...53,7356,00.html and http://www3.soneraplaza.fi/internet..._117867,00.html if you can any Finnish.
