POLL - trust internet voting?

alright who is voting yes? and why? granted, this poll question is very vague, but still.

i suppose if i had to register, verify my e-mail, name and ss# prior to voting then my answer would be yes. otherwise.. matt did you just put that up there to annoy me?

RE: POLL - trust internet voting?

Personally im saying no, partly because i dont trust much on the internet, and the results to a poll on the net can be changed anyway, so it would be a very bad idea

RE: POLL - trust internet voting?

If Internet voting was implemented properly and securely, I would most certainly trust it and encourage it as a potential replacement for regular voting.

I agree with you hatcher anything on the internet can be altered. So some admin could rigg the results so that the person he voted for would win.

It's not like some town is going to set up PHPNuke on a server and make a survey. If Internet voting is properly implemented, it will be even more secure and accurate than regular voting.

RE: POLL - trust internet voting?

newer is not always better.
i like the idea of hand-coutning votes, because you bring humans back into the process.

i like voting anonymously. if an evoting solution could guaruntee that along with security (keeping people from voting more than once, non-citizens from voting, people from chaning votes, etc.) then i'd be all for it.

i don' think that any of the evoting solutions are anywhere near that level of sophistication. in fact, the old system is probably more sophisticated in terms of oversight. there are people involved all along the way to check and double-check things.

Do you mean to tell me that if codebear was the site admin there would be a problem with the votes?

RE: POLL - trust internet voting?

I think voting online leasves way too many doors open to cheat. Its really easy to steal an identity online, hell, you can go to sites, and download SS#'s, phone numbers, etc, so it would be far too easy to cheat, and take far too many resources, and tracing to track down the cheater

Yes i know but even secure polls can be bi-passed and rigged.

Absolutely NO! No one can watch how people vote. You can never know if some people had a gun pointed at their head at the time of voting. This is always the risk when people vote outside official places. That's why I will never support voting on the Internet.
