Routers and Servers

Hi, in the past I have been running my server's internet directly from my cable modem. Now I am currently trying to install a wireless (linksys) router and then trying to connect the server through one of the ethernet ports on the router. Since all the computers connected to the router are sharing the same ip will it be even possible to keep the server running?

Thanks

RE: Routers and Servers

Each computer has its own IP on the private network. It is possible and common to do what you're trying to do. In the administration section of your router there should be a page to change firewall settings. Try looking up your router on the linksys site and find some more info there.

Yes, if you enable network address translation and port forwarding to offer the services on the WAN address, you will have no trouble.
