RE: thanksgiving
I've always wondered, why do you celebrate thanksgiving?

RE: RE: thanksgiving
Quote:
Like most holidays (at least in the US), there are two reasons: the historical and/or religious reason and the modern-day reason. For Thanksgiving, the historical reason is basically to give thanks. It's supposed to be in the context and rememberence of when Pilgrims from the Mayflower first settled in (about 20 miles from where I currently live) and survived through the initial harvest. They ate with the Indians to celebrate their new-found friendship and their success at settlement in the New World. That's a very short and storybook version. Try goolging for more. The modern-day reason ranges from an excuse to gorge on a ton of food and watch football to marking the official opening of the Christmas shopping season. |
