some people can't help using AOL - since a few months ago, they were the only free dial-up service avaliable to me

(however i did take great pleasure in telling them i no longer wanted their services...)

AOL has been the target of many jokes. It is normally assumed that users of AOL are not very intelligent when it comes to computers. As such, notepad was just making a joke about AOL users....
