what do i need to know .....?
Hi all,
I'm just wondering, what do i need to know to be a good web developer? For instance, in my opinion i need to know JS, PHP and ASP, but i've heard that ASP is being replaced by SAP.NET. Is there anything else (e.g. other languages) i need to know? Thanks |

One of the most important aspects of web page development that gets forgotten (IMO) is knowledge in color coordination. I have seen some really great sites that look like s---, simple because the designer was color blind. Knowledge in various coding functions is great, but if it isn't "visually" appealing, then all your work is for not. |

i know some colour blind web designers and they seem to make good websites. I think it is all down to what you think looks good and what you think doesnt.

I think you should learn PHP and XHTML.
XHTML is great for desising sites with lots of information and supports alot of options. And PHP bringes those pages "to life" I personally have looked over some ASP code, and talked to many people who have used it. I do not seem very impressed by it myself. I prefer php anyday. Well, thats just my 2 cents! |

RE: what do i need to know .....?
I agree on color coordination, web sites that have clashing color combinations, or that just "don't look right" are difficult to read, even if they contain useful information. On the coding side of things, I would say PHP, and Javascript . I don't much like javascript because of cross-browser problems, but it does so much that can't be done server-side. If there was a consistent implementation of it, that would be awesome.
just my $0.02 |
