ltw calendar 'login whoos'

I have followed the instructions for setting up the LTW Calendar, but cannot seem to login. After entering a username and password I recieve message 'not logged in'

Initially there are no records in the users - username database, I tried adding a username and password to the database using sql but to no avail. I still can't login?

Any ideas.

machine windows 2000, with apache 2.0.35, mysql 3.23.49, and php 4.2.1
