[Blackjack] RE: RE: Results

The second time I ran my judging script, I ran it with a different set of 1,000 games, since the games are always generated at run time by my judging script. My judging script does work in such a way, however, that every script plays the same 1,000 games (same with Matt's judging script). Really the point I'm trying to make is that the judging script needs to run a lot more than 1,000 games (or run every possible game ) in order to get accurate results and determine a true winner.

It depends on what strategies the scripts run, but it's true that this contest is a bit more of a lottery than most others, because there are some decks that will favour some strategies than others. You could argue that for the contest to be truly fair, you should test every possible deck with every permetation of the rules. That be somewhere around the hundreds of billions (baring in mind we're ignoring suits) of hands. The judging would take months.

In the comments to my script I even acknowledge that in some cases I will be the clear winner, but in many I'll lose around 2.7% of my bank, which as it turns out, seems to be bang on the money with the runs you've done (I'm Paul Robinson by the way - number 21 I think).

I think we all accept the point you're making, but we accepted the rules at 160 decks. The only argument I can see holding up is that a run of 1000 decks breaks the rules, as we were told to expect 160, and some scripts will do better if just the first 160 decks are taken into account. Any other argument is flawed unless we aim for perfection, which is not practical for this competition.

Plus, it's only a bit of fun - don't spoil it by taking it all too seriously.

[Blackjack] RE: Results

I did something INCREDIBLY stupid!

I deserve the disqualification for being so dumb.

I managed to submit mine with some of the testing code left in (not in the entry)

Just wondering...

Did anybody run miniplay? It would be interesting to see where it would have placed in the rankings.

All my notes, scripts, and everything is at work and things have been crazy the past couple of days. We will get all this worked out on Monday....

What is the current state of play? Is there a final list of prizewinners yet? I don't mean to be critical, I'm just curious.

[Blackjack] Code #5, disqualified

Hi!

I would like to know why I have been disqualified (code #5).

I know my script takes a lot of time running, but it still makes quite fair scores. I tried the precise probability approach, so it consumes lots of time. It still contains some bugs, but I don't which rule I broke to be disqualified.

Thanks

[Blackjack] RE: Results

For the delay folks...last week was crazy..

I am in the process of re-running 27 and 28. Both are running fine now...

As for the others that were disqualified, here are my notes as to why:

5: runs forever.....disqualified.

18: parse error

$gameinfo = array("totalcards" => 0,
"tens" => 0,
"left" => array();

fixed parse error. script does nothing. called blackjack() then got undefined function errors...disqualified

14: core dumps....disqualified
