RE: Can anyone translate the task to german ?
If you check out http://babelfish.altavista.com you can transelate from english to german and visa versa.
I have transelated the following code there. ---------- Wenn Sie aus http://babelfish.altavista.com überprüfen, können Sie transelate von englischem Deutscher. |

RE: Can anyone translate the task to german ?
I am German, too, and my English is pretty good since I spent a year in Michigan as an exchange student. But it's not a natural fact that every single human being on the face of the earth is able to speak and understand English. It seems like there are still some Americans who expect everyone to learn their language because they don't want to have to speak any other language themselves... Kinda ignorant, ain't it?

Not to mention the American's take on the "English" language...

RE: Can anyone translate the task to german ?
My first language is Dutch, but since I live in Belgium and work in Brussels, my second language is French.
The 3the language I speak is English (and fourth: German, but not good enough to write it). Whenever I speak a language which isn't my mothertongue, people appreciate it, unless the Americans. They think it is normal when a foreigner speaks their language. I'm still waiting to meet an American who speaks some decent French (or Dutch). |

RE: Can anyone translate the task to german ?
Well, I'm just a dumb American, but here is my take on the subject
On another note, we better be careful with the word American around here. I know we have some members from South America (and Cananda, and Mexico, etc) that won't appreciate being lumped in with us stupid Americans, i.e. United States citizens. Anyway, back to the topic. The reason as I see it that we United States citizens don't speak other languages is that we don't have to. Living in a place like Europe, you are forced into needing to know other languages. Is that a bad thing? No. It's a great thing. I wish I was in a situation were I was required to learn another language. I think it would be very beneficial to me. But, alas, I live in the United States, so I only know the language from here. So, it's not the we don't want to speak other people's languages, it is just that we are never put in a situation where we HAVE to. So, the moral? Stop speaking our language and make us get off our lazy capitolist butts and learn yours! |

RE: RE: Can anyone translate the task to german ?
I disagree with general opinion about English here. I love the fact that English is a most spoken 2nd language. With that in mind, I can easily communicate with someone from china, (I am from Serbia) in English! All thou I like French and German, and I might learn them sometime, I can hardly learn Chinese, AND any other language I might need for communication. Now it is sufficient for me to know English, and expect from everyone else to know it too. ;) |

RE: Can anyone translate the task to german ?
It's interesting, but a lot of 'American' English is actually old 'English' English. For instance, 'Fall' is an old English term that vanished over time in England but was retained in America. There are many other examples too, so in a sense, 'American' English is more English than English.. (?!)
Anyway, I'm Australian, so I have my own crimes to answer for when it comes to butchering the mother tongue. |
