More than one submission

Is it possible to submit more than one solution?

I have several algorithms, of which none is better than others all the time?

RE: More than one submission

I have several approaches too.

I try them all out and select the one that gives the shortest path.

Even though the rules don't explicitly state it, I would prefer only one final submission per a person. In the future I will make sure that clause is in the rules

But I would think it ok to have ONE submission with several solutions...

But this would double execution time, and time here
is as important as no. of moves.

RE: More than one submission

If you see Matt's (and my) postings in the "Solving question" thread, then if your solution constantly produced better results than everybody else then you would win no matter how long it took (as long as it was less than 30 seconds). However, what I think we?ll find is that a lot of people will come up with the same (or very similar) solutions, which will return practically the same results. In this case the time it takes to return the results will give us a winner.

So it?s up to you and how you want to play tactically. If you think you have a solution that nobody else has, that will constantly produce solutions with the fewest moves, then you could decide to ignore the speed factor (apart from the 30 second rule). If you are using a generic algorithm that somebody else is using too (i.e. they are going to generate the same solutions as you) the only way to beat them is return the solutions faster.
Having said that I agree that the two comments ?Number of moves and speed?.These are equally important.? And ?In the first rounds your script will be judged on amount of moves and how many puzzles it solves. After the first rounds, your script will then be judged also on speed.? aren?t strictly speaking compatible, as if you get kicked out at round one, it wont matter how fast you are. Maybe Matt would like to post an official clarification on how he?s judging, or cut-and-paste some of the other thread.
At the end of the day, enjoy coding something new, and remember it?s just a but if fun!

RE: More than one submission

Hmm, it seems that by writing my post in one window and pasting it into the browser, I've acidently converted nearly all punctuation into question marks. Sorry about that.

The last paragraph should read:

Having said that I agree that the two comments "Number of moves and speed....These are equally important." and "In the first rounds your script will be judged on amount of moves and how many puzzles it solves. After the first rounds, your script will then be judged also on speed." aren't strictly speaking compatible, as if you get kicked out at round one, it wont matter how fast you are.

Maybe Matt would like to post an official clarification on how he's judging, or cut-and-paste some of the other thread.
