PHP Coding Contest

I must say that I think the contest is no longer about PHP coding but about who can make the prettiest output. Surely there is more JAVA scripting in the PEGS winner's code than there is PHP. Get back to PHP, Matt.

RE: PHP Coding Contest

This has to be the funniest post I have read in a long time. Mr. Anonymous, I thank you for a good laugh!

Now, let me try and control myself and respond to your post.

Yes, a portion of the contest is about who can make the prettiest output. The main contest is still about solving a problem using PHP. There is no requirement that you try and make pretty graphics. If you prefer to concentrate on the problem at hand, you can use text as your output and not worry about the display portion.

Please show me where the JAVA is? I don't see any JAVA in his script. You must be looking somwhere I am not.

I've never left it. I don't know where you have been. Obviously you haven't been paying attention.

BTW, posting anonymously doesn't help when you have posted with your username from the same IP address in the past ;)

RE: PHP Coding Contest

The answer is hidden in the previous post, because the program to use to code html/javascript is of course notepad. (for windows users at least).

RE: PHP Coding Contest

I just basically dont get it !!!
i just see a big :"This page contains information of a type
(application/x-shockwave-flash) that can ONLY be viewed with the appropriate plug-in. "

I just consider the winner should be a solution with can be usable under any platform - browser, a standard solution, otherwise the guys at W3C are wasting their time !!!!

RE: PHP Coding Contest

Well, my display solution uses Flash, which Matt said was OK. Perhaps a more W3C-ish solution would use SVG, but its support is somewhat lacking..

Anyway, I don't think this contest has much influence over the success of W3C's work, it's up to browser developers, I think.. The current reality is as it is, and Flash is (unfortunately) far better supported than anything W3C has to offer in that respect..

RE: PHP Coding Contest

Screw W3C... the standards makers are currently over at Redmond... and hopefully they will be at Sun and the Java developers' places soon.

On the other hand, MSFT's monopoly does make it easier for developers; IE has some very nice features built-in (look at the WYSIWYG editor included in IE)

Do you mean FrontPage Express? I think they published it just for one purpose: It makes some people buy the full version called Microsoft FrontPage. I mean it's just an ad.

RE: PHP Coding Contest

No, there is a very powerful WYSIWYG editor built into IE.

Look at http://www.a1javascripts.com/utilities/editor/edit.html

RE: WYSIWYG inIE

The editor you were talking about is pretty darn cool for an internet app... I'm gonna save the code and try to figure out how it works. I'm still not sure if it is an extension of IE or a feature of the website it is hosted on. If you could clarify this for me, I would greatly appreciate it.

RE: PHP Coding Contest

It's IE-only extension, AFAIK
