Matt asked me to run the next contest. I was thinking of the game Risk (or a somewhat simplified version) and am wondering what you think about it? Would it be OK or too complex?

Why don't you list the interim rules, and then (I at least) can be in a better position to comment - I can't even remember how to play risk!

Thanks,

Peter

The game of Risk ... hmm, is an option but it doesnt "light my fire". I like complex tasks, but not one where I have to code extensively to achieve the task - some of us actually do work fulltime, I even got two jobs which should be "fulltime". Trilite was good because it could be coded within few hours and still achieve a fairly decent result.

I am more for the mathematical problems rather than a game. A sort of "shortest route", "fastest execution" kind of thing... I once coded a "route planner" of which was supposed to display three different but optimal routes. It was a challenge and a lot of array gymnastics

I think it could be a great contest, but I'm afraid I won't have the time to partecipate, as it would require too much time

To name a different game of which the size is more limited, the difficulty is still high, possible to go head-to-head in an elimination battle for the top-spot. Alternatively, solitaire - but more difficult to judge for the winner (time and moves)

Can we not lift the idea of Risk and simplify it down into a managable contest?

I think a game of Risk is a too complex. And you need a little bit of luck to win. How about a game of Chess?

That's quite a nice idea, but it's been done loadsa times before. Anyone doing a search on the net could find listings of code to achieve that - could we have something we need to work in the dark with?

I do like the whole strategy element though...

Hi!
Although "Risk" is a great game it might be too complex for coding contest especially because it involvers lots of luck and chance.
How about of more straight forward and simplified games like "Hunt the wumpus"?

"Hunt the wumpus" (almost) aka "minesweeper". Could be fun also... though I fancy Othello ;)
