<i>I would compare running a Windows server to the pain experienced from shaving your head with a cheese grater.</i>

You think windows is insecure? buggy? Sorry but that's the way it is. That's the way it is with EVERY operating system. When a bug is found in the Linux kernel, they patch it and release an update. When a bug is found in OS X, Apple release a patch through online update. Guess what? Microsoft does it too! Sys admin has to do his job and patch the server. As long as you patch and configure it right, Windows is secure. In the hands of an incompetent sys admin, any OS is unsafe.

<i>I love that when I open a webpage or something else minor, Windows feels compelled to spin up the CD-Rom drive for no reason what so ever.</i>

Never happened to me. Never heard of it happen to anyone I know. Any running program could've been accessing the cd. Don't blame Windows for everything.

<i>When an application crashes it asks you; "Do you want to send this to Microsoft?" Oh yes, please do. They have to be getting billions of these errors a day. I want to know who the poor sap is that goes through all these errors. Second, you know it is sending everything to Microsoft, including your cracked password list of adult websites (yea pal, don't act like you don't know what I am talking about, you have them). Third, STOP BUGGING ME!</i>

You can turn those off you know. Sounds like you have no idea what you're doing.

<i>I like reinstalling Windows. I also love that it reboots several thousand times during installation. </i>

I'm assuming you're including the reboots required when you're reinstalling softwares after installing Windows. Otherwise I have no idea what you're talking about. It installs, it reboots, you're done!! The last time I reinstalled Windows it was two reboots. One after installing OS, one after installing patches and all the softwares that I use. There IS a "NO" button when they tell you to reboot. Press it and go on installing other things.

<i>I like that Windows is such a bargain. The other day I bought a copy of Windows for only twice the price I paid for the computer itself. The only other thing I forgot to buy was the Vaseline. </i>

Yet you still buy it? Yet millions of people still buy it? I think it was last month I heard the department of defense signed a million dollar contract with Microsoft for their systems.

<i>I love the informative popup reminders. "Warning, low on disk space", why thank you, that is because I installed Windows XP.</i>

You can turn those off as well. Stop being clueless.

<i>I decided to write my own error message. I cannot be as informative as Microsoft, but I will try. Read it HERE. </i>

Link is dead.

Microsoft, Master of NONE

I love Microsoft, why?
Because I havent paid for their products, ever.

I have always run a Mac and with Mac OS X, I dont have to run Linux.

I do have a wintel machine, but its never going on the Internet, ever.

Microsoft has the worst karma, so anything they have done years ago, will come back to haunt them.

Microsoft is the most "unfocused" company around. thats why they are the "jack of all trades" -
"The Master of NONE"

RE: article is bs

I'm not quite sure how this article will impress your readership as this site seems to be aimed at the PHP and database developer. I don't think alienating your readership is such a wise move.

As a former Windows blow hard (I use Linux exlusively these days), I don't disagree with some of the points the article makes but I don't think you will "win over" any converts writing an adolescent tirade. The article could have been written much better without the "attitude" and probably made some good points about the source of Microsofts success and contrasted them with Window's challenges. That would have made a nice segway into the benefits of other OS's.

I would rather read an article about PHP or database development then yet another "M$ Winblows is crap" article. I read enough of that over on Slashdot.

Please... please keep the articles on point. Besides, it is from using applications like PHP, MySQL and Apache that drew me to Linux in the first place, not articles such as this.

Windows 98 is less buggy than Windows XP, and for me my cd drive doesnt spin when i do something minor, but my computer either crashes, says their is no floppy disk inserted in A: or of course opens that program several different times.

I admint my computer is 6 years old, but it seemed to be rather compliant with windows 98, sinecethe upgrade to XP nothing but errors.

The next computer i get is definately going to be a mac, i know they cost a lot but i dont like windows.(Full Stop)

Windows does spin your cd-rom drive when you try to change the address in IE. This is noticable especially with my 486 (Win95), where it takes much time to check if there is a cd in the drive.

RE: article is bs

HEY! I read that Windows for dummies book, and it was greatly informative, would have been much better had they told you how to turn on the computer though, but after 30 minutes on the phone and 200 dollars later with a friendly MS representative I got it on !

I think windows is the most user friendly thing around, imagine, an OS where all you have to do is press any key to continue while cryptic numbers flash around on a screen that is blue, though I had some trouble finding the any key, again, those nice microsoft representatives !

Who needs windows for more than 1 thing anyway?Solitare! I gladly spent my 200 dollars on a peice of solitare software! It is incredible! Hats off to Mr.Gates! And to those wonderful MS representatives!
