I will post a new topic when ever I get one, so I can give it away to anyone that wants one.

RE: Gmail and Privacy : Verdict Google Innocent

the whole issue of data collection is murky because companies sell the datathey collect and what seems innocuous or general in one database can quickly become very specific when combined with other databases.

Marketers can gather entire profiles on you from non specific data that becomes specific when used in conjunction with other data.

It get's a little scary if the data is misused or sold to the wrong people. Even wiothout all the possible misuses it's a very aggressive invasion of your privacy.

what does it matter if they _were_ to read emails anyway?
it's not like it matters, unless we have stuff in our gmail accounts that we don't want the government reading...

RE: Gmail and Privacy : Verdict Google Innocent

A very interesting thread -- well written answers Lexxwern heh. On my side of the case though, I can safely say I have never put that much thought into those concerns. I like it's interface, it's speed, and gets the job done. I know this is a very weak minded answer, but ah well.
