Luddite

I'm not going to argue with you about your first two "why is the economy bad" points. I don't agree 100% and think you miss an ever-important reason that the economy is cyclical in nature since it is a huge feedback loop onto itself. I am going to disagree that outsourcing is the "latest blow."

Your argument against outsourcing sounds very much like a typical Luddite: increasing technology means fewer jobs. Historically, it's an absurd argument. In fact, just the opposite is true, more technology has always brought more jobs. Granted, those jobs require more training and more skill, but how is that bad?

Besides, I'm not convinced outsourcing is here for the long term. From my personal experience (a game development company that started outsourcing it's art work overseas), the quality is far lower and management is significantly more difficult (and therefore costly). If these extra costs outweigh the benefits (namely, lower labor costs), outsourcing will die.

I say let companies outsource all they want and earn as big of profits as they can. That means growth in our economy, more high-level jobs, and more opportunity. Sure it might be painful in the short term, but if you learn new skills and make yourself invaluable to your employer or clients, you will end up ahead.

RE: Luddite

You made some good points but, I am by no means a luddite. Ted Kaczinski (the uni-bomber) was. Technology can grow all it wants. But a business that makes a lot of money with no employees does not spur the economy. Yes technology makes the economy grow, if it is here... No farmed out. You need people walking home with a paycheck and spending it. Without this is does not put money back in the economy.

The other side of the coin that is most important is consumer confidence. When they see this happening they become more shell shocked and won't spend.

That is not entirely true. My intent was not to alienate anyone including you from India!

RE: Luddite

Please...so I guess any website that expresses an opinion about a certain country is 'dedicated' to that country huh? Next time I hear about the BBC airing an opinion piece about anything American, I guess they are now 'dedicated' to America?

Don't step in here and try and start a flame about America -vs- everyone else. You have no ground to stand on...
