RE: mad cow ;)

yesterday at work, we had a virus that disabled our systems and nobody could use them. how did this virus get into the system? it was an accident, but from a computer expert believe it or not. some oracle guru upstairs decided to bring in his own laptop to network into our intranet, completely oblivious to the fact that his own computer was infected and bang.

also who's going to enforce these licences world wide eh?

Well, I partially agree with you. My Rights have been established by my creator. The government of the country I live in has specifically been instructed to uphold my Rights in the Declaration of Independence.

So, I disagree that society decides my rights.

You're right, I should have phrased my post a little differently: Society decides what rights it guarantees, not what rights you have.

RE: mad cow ;)

You know, I recall a similar experience. First off, our "IT" department at out school is horrible, 3 year olds could run it better. They decided to upgrade the servers, but for some reason or anither (I suspect not enough licneses to go around) they refuse to load the original software, they use ghost loads, for all the schools, and the servers. Well, they intellegently used a ghost load with a virus, so for 3 months, our network was unuseable because they couldn;t figure out how to
a)Run a virus scan
b)unblock the virus scan updateing ports so they could update it

So once they get it, they made a mess by giving the students all admin access to the system, which one student revoked the tech people's rights and changed the admins password so they had to re ghostlod(yet again with another virus) . It is a wonderful mess. That is anoither reason why they need computer skills tests. How do they do it twice in a row!?!?!? They still haven;t worked out teh problem 6 months later, though they have managed to screw up the windwos XP profiles system, which screwed up the internet explorer preferences, breaking the use of the internet for us. They also mangaed to rvoke half of our accounts for no apparent reasons, and not be able to un revoke them..... They need to be shot. Its horrible

RE: mad cow ;)

Pickleman, that's what I've always said. All the IT experts should be hired from schools.
