ISP offered to install PEAR--what method/config to suggest?
Hi,
My provider offered to install PEAR for me, and I'd like some advice on how I should advise them to do this. Some background: My website is on an Apache server in a shared hosting environment, running PHP v4.3.10 If possible, I'd like to have them set it up so that I can add any packages I need myself, without having to bug them again. I assume this means that I need a local copy of PEAR. I've read the PEAR installation instructions, but not being familiar with Apache, the info doesn't make much sense to me. (Also, I've already tried to install PEAR using the go-pear method, but I ran into a bunch of errors.) PEAR really looks like it has a lot to offer, but I'm just having trouble getting past the first hurdles! Thanks. -Andrew |

RE: ISP offered to install PEAR--what method/config to suggest?
when they install the packages locally make sure they add it to your path so you can find it easily. And the errors you received when trying to install it yourself - was probably because the default paths are if it is running from root. So you would of had to change all the paths to local versions. Took me a while - playing with the pathes to get them where I wanted.
