PEAR on Shared Host

I thought i would join and help some people out there

My problem was that PEAR is not installed on my WebHost, and the documentation online to get it to work was lacking seriously for a straight to the answers way of doing it.

Documented and ready to read, for those having a hard time. If this doesnt help then damn it be and you cant be helped. Enjoy and hope you enjoy.

Installing PHP PEAR on a Shared Host Provider

RE: PEAR on Shared Host

here is the concept. PEAR requires the path to the base PEAR directory to be set globally. when you install pear on the server this is taken care of for you. If not then all you need to do is have access to include_path from your php.ini.

You can dump all the pear files into a directory local to you, as long as you tell your php code where that directory is.

On a shared server you do not have direct access to php.ini but that doesn't matter. you can use .htaccess files to overwrite php's include_path for your site. Or at the beginning of each script that uses pear you can ini_set() a new include path that includes pear. or combine the approach and use .htaccess to define an auto_prepend which is a .php file that ini_sets() your pear path.

You will have to read up on pear install to find out exactly what you have to set. The article you questinoed seems to be promoting use of a web-front end to the install that i have not used. But the concept would be the same. You can put the pear files wherever you want, as long as you tell your php code about it.
