CS CART HELP NEEDED! Please

Hi guys,
could anyone that has a good knowledge of cscart please help me with what could be a very simple issue.

i've started to use php & ecommerce and have recently installed CS Cart onto my host server, everything works correctly and i can use the admin side of things but i've come across a problem thats stopping the shopping cart running correctly.

Basically when a new customer goes to register a new account it should send them a comfirmation email but what happens instead of that upon completion of the registration form it brings up an error page.

This is the error:
Warning: Unterminated comment starting line 986 in /vhost/vhost8/c/o/m/compu-nuts.co.uk/www/cscart/classes/phpmailer/class.phpmailer.php on line 986

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected $end, expecting T_FUNCTION in /vhost/vhost8/c/o/m/compu-nuts.co.uk/www/cscart/classes/phpmailer/class.phpmailer.php on line 986

im new to php and have been at this problem for a cpl of weeks now and i havent got much hair left thought the stress of keep trying to figure out how to solve this issue.
Its only the e-mail features that dont seem to be working correctly.
in my admin panel i have 3 options for the email functions which are: PHP Mail Function, SMTP Server & via Send Mail Program.
i have tryed all 3 but recieve the same error after completion of the new account registration.
Idealy id like this function to work correctly if possible but if it cannot be done then id like to disable this function somehow?

Im that despirate for help with this matter so i can continue to complete my shopping cart for full use for my potention customers im willing to pay through paypal upto £20 if somebody could help me sort this and have my cs cart full operational.

So if you have the knowledge and would like to help your time and effords will be greatfully apprecicated and rewarded no doubts.

My Email:Jarvis776 AT Btopenworld.com
im looking forward to hearing a reply thanks.
& i really really hope somebody can help me!

Mr N. Jarvis.

i'd say the answer to that question is that there is a comment with no end:
This is a good comment:
PHP Code:
/* Test, test, test */

This is missing the end:
/* Test, test, test
