installing phpbb

I'm having a lot of problems with this. I'm a beginner, but the help documentation does my no good whatsoever. It says "Change the permissions on config.php to be writeable by all," but I open config.php and it is blank... ???

Why do you worry about the file being blank? Change the permission of config.php to 666 using CHMOD. Then install PHPBB by running install.php. This will write the values onto the config.php file. This is the reason why you have to give write access to config.php. Make sure you change the permission of config.php to 664 after installation.
