php file operations

Hi all,

I'm writing some tools to help with the builder of a mud. The room files have to follow a certain format which can be messed up if doing it by hand.

I want to create a wizard style interface to creating the rooms and I want to save all the rooms in individual files and then merge them all at the end and allow the builder to download the complete room file.

I can't seem to find information describing the operations that I can use on files which reside on the server: creating, opening, displaying, etc.

I know it's out there, I just don't seem to be able to find it.
