Apache and proxy server

Hi,
I have a proxy server which allows connection to internet to all machines in the local network.My apache server is running in the local n/w.Can I enable my local apache server to connect to the internet through the proxy server?.I don't want the apache server to act as a proxy server,just want my applications in the server to access other sites like post a query to google and capture the results.
