php.ini environment variable

hi,

just completely reinstalled everthing on pc and have forgotten some settings I had before. One of them was a W2k environment variable I had set so that the php.ini file was searched for in my main PHP install directory instead of c:winnt.

Anyone got a clue as to what I should call the environment variable to do this and should it be a user or a sysem variable?

thanks
