Question from another Newbie!

Hi everyone, Love this site.

I'm just starting out with this PHP jazz and I've been roaming around the site alot, looking for info and other things. =) But I am at a loss, since I haven't found what I want to build and I personally don't know the PHP lingo for such a thing I am trying to build. So let me explain what I am trying to build.

First on the opening screen I will have a graphic underneath the graphic will be a login option, and a register option. (I don't know how to make that) now when I click Login and they fill out the basics, they will be loaded to there own personal sheet, (Don't know how to do that either) as for registering, I don't know how to get there registered information to pop up on there own personal page that could possibly be edited.

I hope this is detailed enough, and yes I am NEWB =) any books, links and or emails would be greatly loved =)
