redesigning karma

so here i am lookign at forum thinking that we need a better karma system. Then i thoght you know what would be good for my forum. Weighted posts.

new posts get you 1 point, replies .2 points

but that can still be "bumping thead to improve my karma"

so here a idea a system that weis the post, 3 words and "me twos" are work liek .05 karma but a good paragraph .7 or more

so thoughts on how to implment this? a word counter maybe?

RE: redesigning karma

Sorry LLX but your spelling and grammer are throwing me way off.

Does that say
"So here is an idea that weights the post. 3 words or less will get .05 karma. And a good paragraph will get .7 or more karma.

Your thoughs on how to implement this set up? A word counter maybe?"

If so - then yeah. I agree with the word counter (str_word_count maybe)... and you might consider only using it on new users below a certain level (regulars and admins shouldn't need it since they can be "trusted" not to abuse the system). That should help save some processor time.

RE: redesigning karma

i am the typo king.

But back on topic is their anything im missing or over looking. cant the system still be abused....the only instancei can think of where a high karma can be generated by a fluf post is a long repetion ie

"all work and no play make homer something something"
"all work and no play make homer something something"
"all work and no play make homer something something"
"all work and no play make homer something something"
"all work and no play make homer something something"
"all work and no play make homer something something"

which is essentially junk but would generate a high karma.

what would bea good way to filter content?

RE: redesigning karma

Sounds like the "convenience" vs. abuse arguement. I think your idea is a good one for generating karma - only thing I can add is to allow your moderators to kick someone down if they pull crap like that - or the whole ++ -- business.

you will never have something full proof.

RE: redesigning karma

good point, now before i go over to the coding form to start tinkering with designing a Karma Module. are their any other issue to address.

let see our design is looking at

Weighted Karma
redundency checking
Admins can reduce karma

would their be a /large/ potential for abbuse if ones karma coud be raised and lowered due to other forum posters good and bad "votes"

sorta combination of "Rate this post" and "posting karma"
