Hello,

I want to write a web forum from scratch. I was wondering if anyone knows of any useful websites to help me as I dont really know where to start!! I know I need PHP/Mysql and thats it.

I'm trying to think of the tables that I'll need in my db, but have no idea how a forum actually works!

I'd suggest downloading Phpbb and have a look at the source. It can be quite confusing at first, but keep looking and you'll get a decent picture of the overall thing.

SMF uses cleaner script and for being smaller, has more options to look at IMHO

I wrote my own forum from scratch and it is located at www.dematrix.net. the thing is at first i tried to look at the source code for phpbb but it was confusing as you said, it is a good idea but instead i tried to figure out the logic behind the coding on my own and now i have a very simple forum which i intend to keep on developing. hopefully one day my codes will look more intricate like those from phpbb.

by the way if you need any help you can ask questions in the programming forum on my site.
