Yet Another CMS
This week I visited CMS Matrix (http://cmsmatrix.org/) to compare-contrast the products out there. I knew there were a lot of products out there, but it was staggering to see them listed.
The big problem: none of them do what I want. Few of them play well with other apps. Some of them have some of the functions I need and none of them have all of the functions I need. The current situation: I am almost ready to start coding one from scratch to suit our needs. It would be in PHP 5 w/MySQL and XML playing a large role. My question: were I to build an engine and start off a SourceForge project, do you think its likely that developers would contribute: throw in code, build modules, etc.? Or, would my CMS get lost in the forest of previously started CMS projects out there? |

RE: Yet Another CMS
I personally go to http://www.opensourcecms.com/ to see, compare, and test drive cms's.

There is always more work then programmers - but don't let that stop you. Sure it could get lost in the "forest" - but if you truly believe it provides something the other don't - go for it. Others may be looking for exactly what you want to build. What's the worst that happens - you build what you need and make it available to everyone? That isn't so bad. |
