allow access to 1 dir using htaccess

ive got 5 directories in the root of my server and i got a htaccess file that requires a valid user to login to gain access to the root of the server.
What i want to do is allow everyone to gain access to one of the folders but none of the rest, how do i write the htaccess file to allow this?

Hmmm. I never thought about doing that. One thing with .htaccess is the it works recursively. I am not sure if this can be done but I am going to look into it for you just because I want to know myself.

Can you change your directory structure. say have two directorys in the root one protected by htaccess and one public?
