Desktop problem

Yeah, maybe this isn't the right place to post, but there is no "general probs" forum at Codewalkers

Now, I decided to go Linux and installed Debian. Naturally I wanted a desktop system. After logging in when I type 'startx' it begins loading, but then says:

Quote:
(EE)Screen(s) found, but none have
a usable configuration

Fatal server error:
no screens found

What does it mean and how to fix it? Yeah, I did answer "Linux newbie" in the previous poll.

During the install did you pick gnome or KDE or anything like that? Did it detect your video card or monitor during install? If not, it or you missed something during the install.

RE: Desktop problem

During install I selected also these package sets:

- X window system
- Desktops

I guess it did install KDE and gnome. I did not fine-tune the packages. It asked which video driver I'd like to use and i selected nv coz my graphic card is nVidia GeForce 2 Pro.

What are the screens it is talking about? I was never asked anything about screens during the install.

RE: Desktop problem

What does it say in /var/log/XFree86.0.log

Send me that information, I am guessing that is the wrong video driver

RE: Desktop problem

Thanks, Cow, but it is solved now. It wasn't wrong driver, it was that framebuffering should have been disabled.
